Hazel Shannon and Clifford held their lead to win the Adelaide CCI4* at the 2016 Australian International Three Day Event for the Thomas Foods International Showjumping Day. Leading into Sunday’s Showjumping decider, Hazel was ranked in first position after a dominant performance on Qantas Cross Country Day. Hazel had less than a rail between her and Victorian challenger Wilhelm Enzinger as she cantered into the main arena, but her flawless showjumping round meant her score of 52.50 penalties remained unchanged for her to take the win. Wilhelm Enzinger and Wenlock Aquifer finished second with a score of 67.00, after knocking three rails in the showjumping, stretching the gap between first and second place. Yet, he held second position by just 0.7 of a time penalty in front of Andrew Cooper and Evergem Perfection, who finished in third position on a score of 67.70. Wilhelm’s second ride, Britannica MVNZ finished fourth on an overall score of 71.80. Rohan Luxmoore and Bells n Whistles produced an impressive clear showjumping round, moving them closer to the top four, but not enough to shift his overall placing of fifth. Hazel says she was elated to win the Adelaide CCI 4* in the heart of Adelaide city. “It was an amazing feeling,” she said. “Going into showjumping, I just tried to remain focused and concentrate on the job.
