Fresh faces in Top 3 after Day 1 of the CCI4*

Fresh faces in Top 3 after Day 1 of the CCI4*

We have 3 fresh faces in the top 3 positions after Day 1 of the CCI 4* competition – after the Pryde’s EasiFeed Dressage phase. Katie Taliana (NSW) in first place riding to a score of 68,97% with 31 penalties, Emma Bishop (NSW), 68.5% with 31.5 penalties in second place and Lauren Brown (WA) in third place 67.70% with 32.30 penalties – Aussie Girl Power! Katie is a member of the Generation Next HP squad for Eventing and has previously worked for Zara Phillips in the UK.  She purchased her beloved horse Trevalgar II in the UK for 1000 pounds and brought him back to Australia. Katie says ‘he is amazing, he is such a good boy and will do anything I ask of him.  He’s been a bit tricky over the last 12 months, but he was back to his normal self today’. When asked how she feels about sitting in first place after day one, she says ‘I’m a bit excited – I’m stoked actually!  The first time I came here, I really wanted to do well in the dressage and I came fourth.  This year he has just got better and better and I’m really excited’. Second place Emma is also a member of the Generation Next HP squad for Eventing and first competed at Adelaide in 2002 when it was a 3* and she won the CCI2* at Adelaide in 2017 on Warrego Marco Polo. This is Emma’s first 4-star competition for several years – she last competed in 4 star 10 years ago.  Her horse CP Issey Miyake, named after a brand of perfume,...
Rachel Lee riding Urodel Du Texier score superbly at 2-star Dressage Day

Rachel Lee riding Urodel Du Texier score superbly at 2-star Dressage Day

Rachel Lee from NSW and Urodel Du Texier currently lead the Horseland CCI2* at the Mitsubishi Motors Australian International Three Day Event (#MMAus3DE) following the first day of competition on Thursday’s CCI2* Dressage Day. Closely followed by WA rider Cindy Lyall riding GI Joe with a score of 31.20 penalties in 2nd, Vic’s Amanda Ross riding Dondiablo sitting in 3rd and another of Vic’s riders, Claire McDermott on Klydoscope, rounding out the top four placings. This makes for a very close and tough competition for the top contenders coming into Saturday’s tough cross-country phase, with less than 6 penalties between 1st and 20th place. Some great results to come through from today’s dressage are the Young Riders, with Samuel Jeffree riding Jaybee Calypso coming in at a spectacular 6th placing, with 33.10 penalties, going into the cross country phase. Steph Hann, one of SA’s own Young Riders, was another rising star to make an impact on the placings. Being her first Aus3de she has done very well to place 18th ahead of Saturday’s XC with 36.50 penalties, and is in the top 4 Young Riders from dressage for the CCI2*. With a rest day tomorrow for the Horseland CCI2* riders, Saturday’s Qantas Cross Country Day will be an exciting competition with the cross country course sure to test  both horse and rider. Tomorrow the gates will open at 8.00am for the commencement of the Pryde’s Easifeed Dressage Day and Twilight program. The lunch break will feature the Dressage Masterclass, with Grand Prix Rider Tor van den Berge, followed by the much anticipated Mitsubishi Motors CCI4* Dressage. At 5pm the...
Tribute to Gillian Rolton’s life achievements and vision – anniversary of a legend’s passing

Tribute to Gillian Rolton’s life achievements and vision – anniversary of a legend’s passing

This year’s 2018 Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3 Day Event will celebrate the life, achievements and vision of former Aus3de Event Director, Gillian Rolton AM, an equestrian icon and dual Olympic gold medallist. With the upcoming 1-year anniversary of her passing, the event will be a reflection on the impact Gill has had not only on the event itself but the sport of equestrian in Australia. Gillian was the first Australian woman to win an Olympic equestrian gold medal, as part of the 1992 three-day event team in Barcelona. She then returned four years later to win a second team gold medal in 1996, both times riding her beloved grey Peppermint Grove, known as “Freddy’’. Gill and Peppermint Grove’s story reached legend status and they became a household name at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games when ‘Freddy’ lost his balance and threw her early on the course. Despite a broken collarbone and ribs, she remounted determined to finish the cross-country course for Australia and enabling them to take home gold. She was a pioneer for sporting excellence as a competitor, but also as an administrator. Gillian served as the director of the Adelaide event for the past 10 years. The development of the 4-star Olympic standard event in the Adelaide parklands was her vision, which she nurtured for a decade, culminating in it being recognised as one of the top three-day events in the world and the leading competition in the southern hemisphere. Last year, 2017 event winner, New Zealand Olympian Clarke Johnstone, made an emotional tribute to Rolton in his speech highlighting “without her this event would never...
International Officials visit to see how the event runs within a beautiful capital city

International Officials visit to see how the event runs within a beautiful capital city

Adelaide is the host to Australia’s premier equestrian event and one of only two international sporting events held in Adelaide annually.  The Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3 Day Event is the only CCI four-star event in Australia, which is held to the same elite standard as the Olympics, the only one held in the Southern Hemisphere and one of only six held across the world. Our event is even more unique in that it occurs right in the heart of the city – something vastly different to other events around the world.  With the amount of space required for a cross-country event, most are held in the sprawling countryside, which brings with it an amazing ambiance, but having the backdrop of a capital city is a distinctive feature of the Australian International 3DE. This has piqued the interest of several International Officials who are coming to visit and view our amazing event to see how well it runs within a capital city. Martin Plewa from Germany – Technical Delegate Marilyn Payne from USA – President of the Ground Jury Christian Landolt from Switzerland – member of the Ground Jury Anne Tylee from New Zealand – member of the Ground Jury Mike Etherington-Smith from the UK – Cross Country Course Designer Jean-Marc Varillon from France – member of the Steward Team With Victoria Park the home of the competition and the cross-country course winding its way around Adelaide’s picturesque East Parklands, the Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3 Day Event provides an amazing weekend of entertainment with a fantastic atmosphere which continues to draw people from all the state, Australia and...
